On April 26th I went to Barbury Castle near Swindon to "Walk The Chalk". This was a transformational event organised by Luciana Corp and described by her simply as
"...a coming together of Souls, who feel the pull to Walk the Chalk, in a sacred way to acknowledge, honour, release and transform "out dated patterns from within.".
So this group of Souls came together on a surprisingly chilly and dull day in April. Surprising, as days either side had been blessed with unseasonably warm and sunny weather more reminiscent of Summer than Spring.
Luciana led us in grounding our energies and called on the land and spirit energies, our guides and whoever we believed in, to guide, support and witness our journey. We set our intention for the day and mindfully strolled forward to the site.
Barbury Castle Country Park, the sign said. Anyone looking for ramparts, high stone walls and moats to play soldiers around will be disappointed as there are virtually no visible signs of what was once a significant hillfort on this site which was built as a
"refuge against warring tribes.....Over time, hillforts became more than just refuges but also focal points for families and tribes living in villages or isolated huts nearby". The high stone walls have long since gone but what is left is a surprisingly powerful energetic footprint on the land. Without the benefit of an aerial shot it is difficult to see the complete lay of the land when you first arrive. There is path going through the middle which effectively splits in 2 the old deep defensive ditches and rampart which are now grass covered mounds and dips. The path through the middle I later discovered is the new Ridgeway and an aerial view clearly shows what was once a circular or oval shape, dissected by a pathway, forming two crescent-shaped earthworks on either side.
Once in the site with the earthworks to either side, Luciana explained a little about the site and suggested that we chose whichever side drew us. Our task was to walk our chosen mound mindfully anti-clockwise, drawing on the nature and land energies, asking for their help to release and transform outdated patterns and energies. When back at the start point, we were then to walk clockwise, again calling on the energies to support us, this time calling back to us energies scattered from this and other life times and to bring in new energies to support our transformation and being our new journey.
Throughout the process, Luciana skilfully held the space for us. From her central and neutral viewpoint she could see our progress and was there at the end of one cycle and the beginning of the next.
It has also made me reflect on how we have lost touch with the simplicity of life and nature. With electronic devices surrounding us all day long, a bombardment of noise, colour and sound, we can easily think that there is little value in doing something as “simple” as walking around an ancient site. But we are being misled, these simple acts of being in, experiencing and enjoying nature are far more important and can be much for rewarding, feeding, healing and transforming our energies. Just walking around them is one thing, going with, and setting an intention, being mindful, calling on and working with the energies of the land, nature etc, being guided and supported by someone aware of and in touch with those energies, is powerful beyond anything an electronic device can give us.
I can’t wait to experience this again!
Luciana’s next Walking the Chalk is on 14 June and is at Manton.
