Why? Mercury is slowing, in its retrograde phase, is barely moving, and preparing to station and turn direct again on 3rd May. Mercury is the planet of the mind and communication and its retrograde is a time when we often experience difficulties with travel and communication of all kinds, especially electronics. If an email is going to go astray, a comment be misinterpreted, or a typo cause a major problem, it is most likely to happen during Mercury retrograde. It is not the best time to sign contracts or start something new, but, of course, this cannot always be avoided. As Mercury slows, the energy is heavier and flows less freely, and problems are more likely to occur.
So, right now, and for the next couple of day at least, try not to start any new projects. Once Mercury is direct, things will improve, but it will take a few days for it to get up to speed again, so leave things for a week if you can. Rather than start something new or engage in something that could be hit by glitches, this is a good time for reviewing and clearing things that have already been started, and especially for tackling those tidying, clearing, cleaning, filing, sorting-type projects that we have been putting off. If there is a pile of papers somewhere, that you haven’t got around to, now is the ideal time to go through them, or to make a start on that pile of ironing that is threatening to topple over. Another project to undertake now, would be to have a declutter, of your wardrobe, cupboards or anything else in the house or garden shed that could do with a tidy up.
Astrologically, this Mercury station is occurring with the Sun in Taurus, which is a practical Earth sign, helping us tackle anything of a practical nature, and its steady energy will give us the staying power to keep going, although Mars in Gemini might side-track us, with one thing leading to another, which leads to another…..
What you will probably find, is that once you get started, although you may not be initially enthusiastic, you will somehow get caught up in what you are doing, and can make a really good attempt at clearing and finishing it. Whenever we are decluttering, tidying, sorting, cleaning etc., there is an emotionally healing echo to our endeavours. With Mercury ruling the mind, when it is slow or stationary, it can make our thoughts slow, stuck in a negative rut or even stagnant. Doing something practical not only keeps the energy flowing but is surprisingly therapeutic. It doesn’t just give us a lift when we see what we have accomplished and feel the space created as a result, but the process itself gives our mind the time and space to process, mostly unconsciously, therefore making a very positive use of Mercury retrograde!
All I have to do now, is decide between the pile of ironing, sewing, the ‘information’ emails that I keep meaning to read, or the overflowing in-tray. Decisions, decisions!
See you on the other side of Mercury retrograde!
